The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory archives on Long Island, New York are a major repository of primary material on the history of modern biology with a concentration on molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In addition to institutional records from CSHL and many related organizations, funding bodies, and precursor institutions, the archives contain personal collections of nearly two dozen significant individuals from CSHL and beyond. The CSHL library and archives are also home to the Center for Humanities & History of Modern Biology, which awards annually the Sydney Brenner Research Scholarship, the Ellen Brenner Memorial Fellowship, and a number of research travel grants, in addition to hosting talks, conferences, and workshops on the history of science and other disciplines.
